Subject: Concerning your concerts in Israel

Dear Sophie,
I'm writing you concerning your planned concerts in Israel.
This email might come a little late. Still, I want to make sure you're aware of the moral meaning of your performance in Israel at the current time.

I saw an advertisement for your concerts in Israel; I don't know what your political views are, but the situation in Gaza strip is now beyond subjective political opinion. During the past two weeks more than 800 Palestinians including 230 children and 100 women were slaughtered, in addition to 3100 injured. Prior to the last onslaught, Gaza had been under a prolonged siege, where essential necessities: food, medicine, electricity, water and fuel were in short supply.

Performing in Israel under these circumstances means identification with its actions and sharing the responsibility for its action. As a human being with conscience, we are responsible not only for our own deeds, but also for the deeds of others whom we support or identify with.

The separation between art and politics is not an excuse under the current conditions.

Hope I'll be able to attend one of your concerts elsewhere in better times.

Yours,
Kayan
